Read the leaf.

27 common problems — deficiency, toxicity, pest, disease, and stress. Spot the signature, confirm the cause, apply the fix. Start with where on the plant it shows: older leaves point to mobile nutrients, new growth to immobile ones.

Nitrogen (N) deficiency

What you see

Uniform pale-green fading to whole-leaf yellow with NO interveinal pattern; overall pale plant. Older leaves droop, dry, and pluck easily (limp, not firm).

Where on the plant

Lower/oldest leaves first, progressing upward

Mobility

mobile

Confirm it

New growth still green while lower leaves yellow uniformly; runoff/feed EC reads low. Limp texture distinguishes from light burn (firm) and overwatering (firm, downward).

The fix
  1. 1Confirm pH is in range: 5.8-6.2 coco / 5.5-6.0 rockwool before dosing
  2. 2Raise N in the base feed toward the vegetative target (feed EC ~1.4-2.0 mS/cm veg)
  3. 3Note that N is deliberately tapered in late flower - mild lower-leaf fade in ripening is normal, not a deficiency
  4. 4Recheck new-growth color within 3-5 days
